The holiday season is definitely one of the most joyful seasons of the year. People love it so much that they even start celebrating it early. This is the season where families come together for the holidays whether they are from out of state or a mile down the road, everyone comes together to spend such a happy time with each other.
There are a wide variety of holidays celebrated during this season all across the world. Clarkston is lucky enough to have diversity throughout our schools also! Even though the majority of people at the high school celebrate Christmas, there are still several of other holidays celebrated such as Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa.
A few students within our school were asked if they had any holiday traditions, and their answers show how unique and meaningful the holidays can be to different people.
Daisy Reddaway, who celebrates Christmas, says "My family and I usually get the Christmas tree about a week after Thanksgiving and decorate the house with ornaments and lights."
Noah Kostecki, who also celebrates Christmas says, "We don't really eat traditional Christmas food. My family is Polish so we have a lot of dumplings and tons of sauerkraut. It's like the opposite of what you'd expect."
Barak Braslavski, who celebrates Hanukkah, says "I'm usually with my family and light the candles for the 8 nights and we have a big dinner with potato Lotkes. We just really spend a lot of time together."
They were then asked for what they were most and least excited for this season. Daisy answered with, "The lights and seeing how beautiful things are." Then she went on to say, "I'm least excited for the snow. I hate snow and Christmas usually has snow."
Noah answered with, "Break. I just want to be done with school, I have bad senioritis right now." Which he then followed with that he was least excited for driving people around.
Barak answered with, "I'm most excited for being with all of my friends and to just have a lot of fun this season. I always feel happiness going through this time. It's a great time for everyone to get together and be thankful for one another."
The holidays are a time for everyone to feel happy and loved. It's a great time for everyone no matter what holiday they celebrate, if they do celebrate one! Enjoy the holidays.
