Dear Parents, Families and Friends of CHS,
Clarkston High School is a rather lonely place during July and early August. Gone is the hustle and bustle that makes our learning environment so exciting during the school year. This is not to say that we are not busy during the summer months as students from our performing arts, athletic, and leadership programs have been active all summer long, and many community camps and activities have taken place within our walls. There are many things going on, but it is not the same when 1,800 students are not bringing life and excitement to our school each day and we look forward to August 26 when we welcome our students back!
Upon their return, students and parents will notice our new main entryway design. With safety as our first priority, our offices will be reconfigured to allow for better sight lines and safe entry. From 7:30am until 2:25pm, all students and guests who come into the building will enter through our secure entry. This update, along with the installation of new cameras, and upgrades to exterior doors, will serve to increase building safety. As parents, we want you to be aware of the new entry protocols at CHS. We will also be sharing this information with students at the start of the school year.
We work hard to create a learning environment where students, staff, and families are challenged, healthy, engaged, safe, and supported. As a means to this end, we provide a wide range of superior academic, athletic, and co-curricular activities for our students. There is truly something for everyone at CHS. Research indicates that students who take responsibility for their own learning, and are involved in activities, demonstrate significant academic gains and are more well adjusted socially and emotionally. Going into the 2019-2020 school year, we encourage you to challenge your student to step out of their comfort zone and try a new activity, meet new people, and expand their horizons.
We are looking forward to another great year at CHS. We are poised to take on new challenges while we celebrate our successes and cherish our traditions. The Clarkston community is truly a special place to call home and CHS is truly an extension of our community.
